Having honed his sound on Berlin club and festival dancefloors, James is back in the Bay for one special night featuring original productions, custom edits, and a journey through genres that defies expectations and keeps you on your toes. Former Tutu Tuesday resident, Public Works regular, and selector at countless Monks of Funk parties on and off-Playa, James is excited to reconnect with the SF community that shaped him. James will be joined by close friends Asymmetry and Blackstock on decks and subfeels on visuals.
For the curious... What is "live" ? In a world of algorithms, playlists, and pixel-perfect, pre-recorded perfection, electronic music created in the moment truly hits different. Club music might be created with machines, but it only touches us when we feel the human element speaking through them. Performing from the floor rather than behind the booth, James' intimate liveset creates a unique connection between artist and audience, a place where boundaries between genres dissolve, and where the little mistakes become beautiful imperfections. Paired with subfeels' mesmerizing visuals, and bookended by DJ sets by talented locals Asymmetry and Blackstock, the night promises to be a journey rather than a destination. Come with an open mind. Leave with a new perspective after a night with old and new friends...
Asymmetry
Ukrainian artist Asymmetry has become a Public Works regular, frequenting both the main stage and the loft with her distinctive sound. She fuses midtempo, slow house, dark downtempo, and indie dance to tell haunting, expansive stories. Equal parts elegant, groovy, and eclectic, Asymmetry's sets take you on hypnotic journeys while making your body move with the flow. Influenced by UK 90's trip hop, IDM, deep house, and multicultural folk music, she creates textures that are emotional and narratively rich. Hosting her renowned Birdday event for the third year running at the loft, this local Loft favorite has recently been bringing a bouncy, high-energy midtempo and indie dance sets that have become her signature.
Blackstock
Deep selector and local legend to the lucky ones who know, Blackstock has earned his reputation as one of your favorite DJ's favorite DJs. Not kidding - ask James, and he'll tell you Blackstocks easily in his top 5, and for good reason: Blackstock's deep cuts and impeccable taste are always the perfect fit for getting lost in a moment.
