This fun one-day workshop is a great introduction to encaustic painting and working with beeswax medium. The workshop will examine approaches to using colored wax, paper, tissue papers and embedding objects into the wax. We will address heating, fusing, and manipulating wax, as well as the use of color, brushes and where to find materials. You will be able to take home at least 1 to 3 finished pieces that are 5 x 7 inches.
All supplies are included in the cost of the class. Supplies include wooden panels, papers and wax medium. You are welcome to bring your own collage materials if you wish but note that shiny, plasticized surfaces or heavy items will not work. Participants receive a 10% discount at ARCH for any materials purchased the day of the class.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Students must be 12 years of age or older since we will be working with very hot elements, melted beeswax and resin in making encaustic art
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
ARCH has a free dirt lot in front of the store at the end of Carolina Street. The 10 POLK, 19 POTRERO and 55 UCSF MISSION BAY SF MUNI buses all stop about 3 blocks from ARCH (go to ARCH on Google Maps and click on directions)
What can I bring into the event?
Wear an apron or clothes and shoes that are 'art appropriate'. Also, feel free to bring snacks, a drink and water. There is no 'lunch break' and cafes are not within nearby walking distance.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
You may call the instructor at 415 652 1112 and leave a message with the best times to reach you.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
If you are unable to attend the workshop within the 7-day cut-off period you may either transfer your ticket to a friend for attendance that day or use it for a future workshop given by the same instructor at ARCH.
