INTRO TO VIRTUAL REALITY FOR TRAINING: DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT WITH UNITY

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Curious about using Virtual Reality to train your team? Interested in prototyping your training simulations yourself? In this evening workshop, we will dive into the VR and AR industry, discuss which companies are using immersive technologies to train their employees and how they are doing so, and touch on the basics of building these experiences with the Unity 3D engine.
Interested in more events like this? Find us on Meetup and Facebook!

Key Discussion Points:

How to identify a training opportunity to optimize with VR or AR

Break down the ROI of the VR/AR training technique

Compare different application features to maximize effectiveness while sticking to your budget.

Comparing and choosing headset hardware

What you will learn:

How different industries use Virtual and Augmented Reality to train for different roles

Which companies within those industries are using Virtual Reality.

How to decide on application features, based on their implementation cost

How to plan and execute an XR development project

How to prototype a training simulation in Unity, to prove the concept

Unity roadmap: what to learn next

Why take this evening workshop:This evening workshop will jumpstart your understanding of using Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies in the workplace. This is an evening to ask any and all questions about these mediums, and drill down on specific questions about your industry or company.

Learn the basics of VR and AR development, so you can project plan more effectively.

Walk away with a new perspective on feature implementation, with a focus on ROI.

Meet other professionals interested in the technology and eager to learn how to use it in their training workflow.

No coding experience required, and you will still learn the basics of building in Unity.

Evening Schedule:
Thursday, November 8th (6:00am - 8:30pm)

6:00pm: Doors open. Come on in, try a few VR and AR training experiences, and meet the other folks in the workshop.

6:30pm: Presentation begins. Learn about VR and AR as training technologies, project planning, maximizing ROI.

7:15pm: Switch over to Unity and follow along as we learn the basics of building in Unity. We’ll prove to you that anybody can do it!

8:10pm: Discuss the Unity learning journey. What you should learn next and how to learn it.

8:15pm: Break to continue networking, try out more demos, or continue building in Unity.

8:30pm: Disperse for the evening.

About The Instructors:
Andy Jevsevar

Andy is the Director of Technology at KairosXR, pushing the limit of what’s possible in XR across multiple industries: Academia, L&D, Entertainment, Automotive Design, Healthcare, AEC, and more. He has built multiple Unity XR courses, now taught at M.I.T., and is currently partnered with Unity to create five courses for different XR enterprise use cases. Outside of curriculum development, he consults and leads development across multiple industries, working on projects ranging from Virtual Science exhibits to multiplayer Oculus store applications. He is passionate about improving the quality of education and training world wide.

Tim Kanellitsas

Tim Kanellitsas is the Director of Design and Partnerships at KairosXR, a VR/AR development studio, where he helps companies and teams design powerful and effective XR products. He is a lead instructors at Pathstream, offering Unity training in non-gaming areas (Construction, AEC, Automotive, L&D, and Marketing), where he trains enterprise teams how to design and development XR applications internally. With the goal to empower experts across all industries to prototype and build XR applications for their respective fields, he has built multiple Unity curricula, teaching VR and AR design and development.
On the product side, Tim pushes the creative and design direction in client projects, focussing on the user to maximize efficacy and ROI.
Tim is a certified Unity developer, and focusses exclusively on VR/AR as a medium to revolutionize knowledge transfer, healthcare, and design. Specializing in rapid prototyping, interaction and experience design, and product management, he obsesses over “how” and “why” we can use XR to streamline communication and design processes.
Some recent VR/AR projects Tim has worked on can be found here.
