Intro to the Art of Japanese Rope Suspension: Part 1 presented by Kanso

SEE EVENT DETAILS

Kiss of Rope is excited to present this three-part series exploring safe and beautiful suspensions. Join me for three daylong immersions that will help develop your skill in the art of Japanese rope suspension bondage.Rope Suspension (tsuri) is a visually beautiful and incredibly engaging form of Japanese rope bondage. These classes focus on the fundamentals behind suspensions, including learning proper safety and anatomy, efficiently managing load-bearing ropes, and how to effectively execute a full static suspension under challenging conditions. We will help you develop the skills needed by both rope top AND bottom for a safe and beautiful suspension!

Schedule:

1:00-3:30pm - Line management: Demo and drills on several ways to properly lock off suspension lines. How to manage suspension lines safely and efficiently. Exploring the partial suspension as a safe entry into the world of suspension.

3:30-4:00pm - Break: Please bring hardy snacks for yourselves (think protein, iron, carbs, and sure, take care of that blood sugar level!) It’s vital to the safety of both tops and bottoms to remain well-fed and -hydrated when practicing suspension.

4:00-6:00pm - Side Suspension: The afternoon session focuses on how to move dynamically from a partial suspension into a classical side suspension, or Yoko Tsuri Shibari.

PLEASE NOTE:

-In order to perform your suspension, we MUST approve a suspension-safe chest harness/box tie and waist harness. We reserve the right to ask any students to observe rather than participate if we feel your experience is not at a safe level for suspending. Safety first!!

-This is a pairs/couples only class. Singles tickets are not available.

To our riggers- You must be proficient in the following:

3 rope box tie (Gote Shibari)
Hip harnesses
Rope tension
Half hitch
Slip knot
Frictions
Column ties (all angles, specifically vertical)
Body awareness (Tops AND Bottoms)
Testing for nerve compression, loss of mobility, and circulation when tied  (Tops AND Bottoms)

To our rope bottoms:

Come well hydrated, well fed, and well digested!
Bring your supplies. arnica, layers of clothes, and a sugary snack.
Do some research. Look up information about rope bottoming and learn as much as you can!
Communicate! Ask questions and communicate as clearly as possible. This class is just as much for you as it is for your rigger!

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT (with recommended links):

AT LEAST 12 lengths of 8m long/6mm wide rope (jute or hemp preferred)
9-10 pear shaped carabiners
Emergency shearsWe no longer recommend a suspension ring. You may use your carabiners or this rigging plate:
Universal Rigging Plate
Climbing rotor swivel
Rescue hook knife
Marlin spike
Metolius 18mm Nylon Sling (Set of 4)
Flexible Mannequin (For at home practice)

This list, of course, is meant as a guide and to be used with your own common sense and budget capabilities! If you have similar equipment and want to know if it will suffice, please write to us and ask! Most importantly, we need your level of practice to be ready for entering the world of suspension, and we REALLY mean it when we say you need to have a proficient boxtie already! If you can spend every day from now until class tying a boxtie a day, that would be really great prep work!

We have a wonderful day in store for you, and hope it will SAFELY catapult you into the challenging and beautiful world of suspension!
