Intro to Flow Consciousness – The Vedic Approach to Meditation with James Brown

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Start your weekend unwind early and join Pacific Pause every Friday afternoon at The Assembly for a meditation gathering.  Whether you are brand new to meditation or a seasoned meditator, our teachers will guide you through a practice that will leave you feeling grounded, calm and happier. You'll connect with others in our community and leave with new friendships.
On this last Friday of January, join us for a special introduction to Vedic Meditation with James Brown. We live in a world that prizes critical, analytical thinking and effort. We effort the hell out everything. And yet the best experiences in life, when we’re in the zone, in the flow of the present moment, are when we’re barely thinking and not trying. But for most people these flow states are rare and fleeting. Why? Because we often find our minds are spinning out of control, a non-stop stream of brain chatter called “The Monkey Mind.” Sound familiar? Come join Vedic Meditation master James Brown for a workshop in which you’ll discover the forces that prevent us from being present, and learn some simple, practical and effortless meditation techniques that engage your mind’s natural ability to settle on it’s own (yes, even your mind) when you allow it to flow.

James Brown is one of the world's foremost teachers of the ancient practice of Vedic Meditation. After completing a rigorous, a two-year training program of over 2500 hours of instruction under legendary master Maharishi Vyasananda Thom Knoles, including a 4-month intensive retreat high in the Himalayas, James returned to found Vedic Path Meditation in San Francisco. He has taught thousands of busy people from all walks of life to meditate, and has led courses and workshops in companies across the country, including some of Silicon Valley’s most innovative firms. He lives in The Presidio with his wife, two young sons and (according to his wife) way too many bicycles.

The Assembly is a clubhouse for women focused on wellness activities and experiences. The Assembly is a space and community designed for the way millennial women socialize — through fitness, healthy living, and networking. The first wellness-focused space of its kind, The Assembly offers open seating to work and hangout, daily fitness classes from top tier instructors, and gorgeous design. Located in a historic building in the Mission, and engineered for the way we sweat, work, learn, organize, and connect, The Assembly is a kickass group of women coming together to create community in this urban sanctuary.

FAQ's:

1. Are men allowed?
Yes classes are open to everyone. We love men!
2. Are props provided?
Yes all props, blankets and seats are provided. There's no need to bring anything.
3. What should I wear?
You can come dressed as you are! But comfortable and soft clothing will always make it easier to sit.
4. What if I can't meditate or am not good at it?
No one is GOOD at meditating. It's all about making the time and being consistent. Trust us, we all feel like we're not good at it. Come anyways, your mind will thank you.
5. I'm not a member of the Assembly but want to check out the space before or after class.
