A master of poetic forms, Patricia Smith's writing fearlessly engages with America's continuous war on black bodies. She is the award-winning author of eight critically-acclaimed books of poetry, winner of the 2018 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, NAACP Image Award, Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and a finalist for the Pulitzer. Smith is a Guggenheim fellow and a four-time individual champion of the National Poetry Slam, the most successful poet in the competition's history. She is a professor at the College of Staten Island and teaches widely, including at the VONA summer workshop.
