Interactive Workshops with Hip Hop For Change

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us as we celebrate the closing weekend of the exhibition "Soul of a Nation" with Hip Hop For Change! Oakland's Hip Hop For Change uses grassroots activism to educate about socio-economic injustices and advocate solutions through Hip Hop culture as a means to empower historically marginalized and oppressed communities.

-Word Up! Word Up is a workshop on the art of em-ceeing / rapping. Review different styles and techniques of rapping, lyricism, songwriting, and performing in order to speak your truth and write your own verses to perform in a rap cypher.
-Breaking Barriers. Get ready to rock the floor with this fun and fast-paced workshop. Special guest B-Boys and B-Girls get busy, showing participants basic break dancing moves as well as and other Hip Hop dance styles.\
-Write On! Professional "Writers" will review the legacy of Graffiti from ancient times to the present. Get ready to create your own piece!
-Go DJ! A DJ workshop that shows how Hip Hop started looping and mixing breakbeats back in New York during the early '70s. Our guest DJ instructor will teach how to mix/blend, scratch records on live turntables as well as using those skills for beat making on live beat machines.
