Any discussion about India would highlight that it has the world's fastest growing economy and, throughout peaceful transitions of power, has been committed to democratic values. Despite these positive elements, there is still growing concern about the adverse effects of economic growth and India's trade alliances.
India’s rapidly growing economy might be a cause for celebration, but inflation and a weaker currency have been two unfavorable outcomes for the country. Outside India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to continue relations with Iran by importing oil. President Trump, however, has been critical of the trade alliance, and this has caused some tension in US-India relations. On a positive note, the US is looking to strengthen its military alliance with India by increasing the sale of defense equipment, including advanced communication technology that will allow the countries to connect in real time.
After a recent dialogue between the two countries, there are still lingering questions. To what extent will the US respect India's trade decisions, especially as Prime Minister Modi looks to secure trade alliances with Iran and Russia? How will India resolve some of the issues arising from its economic upsurge?
Manpreet Singh Anand, Senior Vice President at Albright Stonebridge Group, will join us to discuss India's economic success, societal challenges, and the future of US-India relations.
