Join us for a preview screening of the new living history film HUMANITY NEEDS DREAMERS: A VISIT WITH MARIE CURIE (40 mins) and Q & A with filmmaker Jen Myronuk on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at PARISOMA. Event includes a pop-up photographic display of "Storied Women of MIT" by scientist & historian Meg Rosenburg. The film recently screened at the Cambridge Science Festival at MIT and is the first U.S.-based, science-focused film on Marie Curie in over 75 years.
Two-time Nobel Prize winner Marie Sk?odowska Curie is best known for pioneering the field of radioactivity — including developing one of the first successful radiation treatments for cancer — but few understand the obstacles she faced just to get into the laboratory.
What if she could tell her story?
HUMANITY NEEDS DREAMERS: A VISIT WITH MARIE CURIE invites audiences to time travel and meet Marie Curie in Paris, circa 1915, as she recollects her quest to isolate two elements — polonium and radium. From her childhood in Poland to groundbreaking research in France, Dr. Curie shares the struggles, failures and triumphs behind her scientific discoveries and remarkable collaboration with companion scientist & husband Pierre Curie.
Masterfully portrayed by living history scholar Susan Marie Frontczak, HUMANITY NEEDS DREAMERS is an immersive, cinematic rendition of the acclaimed one-woman theatrical show seen by over 52,000 people in 32 states and nine countries. As an experimental living history film, this unique format breaks the digital fourth wall between live theater and cinema, past and present, scholar and performer.
HUMANITY NEEDS DREAMERS: A VISIT WITH MARIE CURIE explores the tenacity of the human spirit and the enduring allure of scientific discovery.
Doors open at 6:00PM. The film is 40 minutes long followed by a 20 mins Q & A.
Produced by STEM on Stage and fiscally sponsored by Filmmakers Collaborative, a non-profit arts organization supporting independent filmmakers and public media. Hosted by PARISOMA, SF's leading innovation co-working community.
