Humanity in Artificial Intelligence

SEE EVENT DETAILS

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the way we live our lives. In technology, money, medicine, love and work, AI is influencing our decisions. We are now faced with new questions about staying safe, job security, privacy and autonomy in making life choices. Significant benefits in treating damaged brains, assisting aging populations, helping to curb climate change and solving humanitarian crisis can come from the use of AI, however, it can also manipulate, and alienate populations. AI’s advanced form can obscure power and choice. One only needs to look to the fake news reports and interference of Russian hackers that were rife in the 2016 elections to see how AI can be used to influence people and governments in unprecedented ways. “Solomon’s Code: Humanity in a World of Thinking Machines” a new book by Olaf Groth and Mark Nitzberg explores these issues and applies a new perspective on the use of artificial intelligence.
How will AI be developed and governed to reflect human values and support empowerment? Who gets to determine these values? What can be done to ensure that this new technology still benefits humans? Join Groth, Professor and Program Director for Digital Futures at Hult International Business School, and Nitzberg, Executive Director of the Center for Human Compatible Artificial Intelligence, as they discuss their new book and dive into these questions.
The authors will sign books at the end of the program. A limited number will be available for purchase at the event.
