Humanities West presents Vienna on the Verge: 1890-1918, a two-day program of lectures, discussions, and musical performance exploring the tumultuous cultural life of Vienna at the end of the 19th century, as it became the center of emerging modernism in philosophy, architecture, art, literature, and music.
The program features talks on the rise of literary modernism, the celebrated art of Klimt and Kokoshka, Viennese architecture, and the impact of social change on everyday life, along with a special musical lecture/performance featuring chamber music by Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, Anton Webern, and Oscar Straus.
A panel discussion with the presenters will follow.
