How to start investing, even if you've never done it before

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Investing can feel like a scary thing to dive into, especially if you have no idea where to start. Luckily, it's become easier than ever now to start investing, even with a few dollars. You just need to know a few key terms and big concepts to understand what you’re investing in and how you want to start.
In this workshop, we will show you some investment basics to get you going, including some of the jargon that you'll see thrown around, as well as how to tie your investments to your goals and which types of investments and companies to consider based on your needs and comfort level.
You will learn about:

How to create a savings plan that includes investing regularly

The basics of investing in the stock market, including stocks, bonds, ETF's, mutual funds, and proper asset allocation

The companies/products to start investing with based on your individual needs, tolerance for risk, and goals

The growing Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) movement, what makes it different/the same as other investments, and if it’s something to consider for your portfolio

Your 401k/403b, pension plan, traditional IRA, Roth IRA, SEP IRA, where and how to open these accounts, and how to invest in them

This workshop will be co-led by Pamela Capalad: a Certified Financial Planner™ and Accredited Financial Counselor and co-founder Dyalekt. In the financial services industry since 2008, Pamela founded Brunch & Budget to help people who felt ashamed or embarrassed about money have a safe and friendly place to talk about it and make real financial progress.
