How to Process Grief and Loss: A Workshop with Helge Osterhold

SEE EVENT DETAILS
This workshop is part of the How To Workshop Series.
Whether you’re dealing with the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, the death of a pet, or the loss of a dream job, this workshop provides support and guidance through the grieving process. Grieving our losses is a skill that can be developed, but it is not generally taught in our post-modern western world.
Through engaging group dialogue and reflection, Helge Osterhold invites you to re-evaluate the importance and potency of grief. His teachings reframe grief, moving from the experience of sadness and loss that needs to be endured and processed to a vital part of life—a frequency that can connect us to the deeper parts of ourselves, and to each other. Understood this way, the grief we feel when we experience loss is much more than an emotion or a phase, it is an enriching cornerstone of the human soul.

Helge Osterhold is a psychotherapist and integrative educator. After teaching as an adjunct professor within the East West Psychology department at CIIS since 2012, Dr. Osterhold joined us as a core faculty member in 2017. For the past 10 years, Dr. Osterhold has also been working at the University of California San Francisco; since 2012 as the founding director of a training program that focuses on mindful caregiving and clinician resiliency, and previously in pediatric palliative care and bereavement services at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Originally from Germany, Dr. Osterhold received a BA in Human Relations at Golden Gate University, an MA in Integral Counseling Psychology and a PhD in East West Psychology at California Institute Of Integral Studies. His theoretical and clinical orientation includes transpersonal, depth and humanistic-existential psychologies with an additional focus on systems theory and multiculturalism. Dr. Osterhold teaches courses in Spiritual Counseling Skills, Jungian Psychology and East-West Spirituality, Integral Approaches to Dream and Synchronicity, and The Psychology of Death and Dying. He maintains a private psychotherapy practice with a focus on life transitions and lives with his family in Berkeley.
