How Do We Make the World We Want to Live In?

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Our world is full of would-be ‘change agents’ including campaigners, lobbyists, and officials. Goals may vary — ranging from improving public services or reforming laws and regulations, to guaranteeing human rights and negotiating fairer deals for all — but each of us aspires to transform the world in some way. A wide array of issues exist across the globe, but change is possible.
Despite all of this, few resources exist where social activists can turn to for advice and inspiration. Duncan Green, Oxfam’s Senior Strategy Advisor, offers just this in his recently published book, "How Change Happens." Drawing upon top research and his own experience working at one of the largest international social justice NGOs, he joins us to discuss practical solutions for social and political change.
As individuals and as organizations, how can we most effectively use our resources to create the world we want to live in? How can broader social norms and political movements lead to change? Will it ever be possible to fundamentally alter underlying power structures at the root of so many of the world’s inequalities?
