Hooray for Braille!

Celebrate the New Year by joining members of the San Francisco Chapter of the California Council of the Blind as they honor Louis Braille's revolutionary tactile system of reading and writing.

Beginning with its adoption by France in 1854, Braille has made books, music symbols, mathematical notation, and other printed material accessible for people who are blind or have low vision.

Event activities include:

DEMOS & DISPLAYS
Main Library - Atrium, January 27, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Have your name written in Braille and explore tactile maps and drawings. All questions about how Braille is used in everyday life will be gladly answered.


TECH SHOWCASE
Main Library - Atrium, January 27, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A variety of high and low tech tools and devices will be on hand to illustrate the power of Braille and related technology.


STORYTIME
Main Library - Children's Center, January 27, 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Enjoy songs, fingerplays and interactive print/Braille story books read by members of the California Council of the Blind.

Children of all ages and their caregivers are welcome.
