Dr. Veronica Hunnicutt, a former educator and administrator, a community activist, and CEO of HG Inc., has written "Straight Talk: How to Survive and Thrive as a Young Man of Color", a book for all ages and gender, especially for young men of color from the ages of 16 to 35.
As part of the HG Inc. kickoff of the "Uncomfortable but Necessary Conversations" Speakers' Series, you will have an opportunity to meet guest speaker Pastor John Withers, who will discuss the FIRST and critical step to surviving and thriving in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Pastor Withers is the Senior Pastor of New Hope Community Church in South San Francisco, CA. He has been in various areas of ministry for over 30 years. Today he enjoys assisting couples, families, and individuals in resolving conflict while establishing boundaries in order to effectively communicate. By assisting them to walk through some acute skills, they began to have a clear vision of what their defaults have been and what has kept them from progressing based on some of their choices. Together, they develop strategies whereby the individual(s) life can become more rewarding and productive. John received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature with a Minor in Speech and Communications from San Francisco State University. He then went on to complete his Master of Divinity in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
In addition, John holds an M.A. Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA. He recently received his credentials as a PCC (Professional Certified Life Coach), approved by the International Coaching Federation. John was elected in January 2017 as Presbyter of the San Francisco and Peninsula Section to oversee 70 pastors and churches of the Assemblies of God. Previously he had worked in the private sector for 25 years as a Facilities Manager and the public sector for 10 years as the Superintendent of the County of Santa Clara: John and his wife Rosemary have been married for 38 years and have two adult daughters; Angelica and Ashley, and he and his wife are new grandparents to a baby girl.
