Herlen Place to Host Vaughn Duffy Wines Meet the Winemaker Event

Herlen Place in San Francisco will host a Meet the Winemaker event on Thursday, April 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. showcasing Vaughn Duffy Wines. Winemaker Matt Duffy will be on hand to answer questions about his wines which can be paired with items ($7.00 to $35.00) on Chef Patrick Albert’s menu.

Always available is the Herlen Place small plates focused menu that perfectly complements the robust wine program. The kitchen is headed up by Chef Albert working with co-owner and restaurant entrepreneur Laurent Manrique and the Café de la Presse team.

Chef Albert, born in La Rochelle, France, worked his way up through the kitchens of Paris before becoming Chef de Cuisine in the Consulat de Savoie in Paris. While on vacation in the United States, he fell in love with San Francisco and decided to continue his culinary career stateside. He first worked in the kitchen of L’Olivier, then became a sous chef under Bruno Chemel at the Milano Hotel and then under Sylvan Portray at the Ritz Carlton, first as a line cook and then in the banquet kitchen with Jean Pierre Dubray. He subsequently moved to Café de la Presse in 2003.

Front of the house responsibilities at Herlen Place are overseen by Olivier Daridon of Café de la Presse fame who has also curated as extensive wine-by-the-glass list with options from the old and new world with many French vintages as well as organic, bio-dynamic and/or sustainable selections.

The engaging, casual 70-seat (including the bar and sidewalk patio) space was created in association with architect Moss Wong. Highlights include a significant display of images by renowned French photographer Bénédicte Lassalle, a blue, white and cafe au lait color scheme, a high ceiling, substantial natural light from oversized front windows, wood textured flooring, suspended glass-globe light fixtures over the bar, living room style lounge furniture, marble topped bistro tables, leather upholstered bar stools and a communal table.

Herlen Place is located at 334 Grant Avenue, at Harlan Place, in San Francisco, California. Street parking is sometimes an option and there are area garages. The venue is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Coffee and breakfast/brunch options are available until 2:30 p.m. Reservations are not necessary.
