Herb and Dorothy Vogel, respectively a retired postal worker and librarian, built a world-class art collection on their humble salaries. In 2008, they announced they were giving a total of 2500 artworks to museums in all fifty states. Though their collection was worth millions of dollars, the Vogels declined to sell a single piece. Having spent their whole lives as civil servants, their wish was to give back to the people of the US. A road movie through the art world, the film takes the audience on a journey across the country to eleven recipient museums, from Honolulu to Fargo, meeting curators and visitors, and introduces famous artists, as well as unknown favorites of Herb and Dorothy.
