In partnership with the San Francisco Mayor’s office, Linda Mjellem, Executive Director of the Union Square Business Improvement District (USBID) is proud to announce the revitalization of Hallidie Plaza, a multi-level urban gathering place surrounding the Powell Street BART station, adjacent to San Francisco’s world-famous Powell Street cable car turnaround. Hallidie Plaza also houses the Visitors’ Center for the San Francisco Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, where travelers can speak with helpful guides and pick up an array of publications in a variety of languages.
The USBID is hosting a community celebration, “Hallidie Plaza Performances” on Thursday October 7 from 4 – 7 p.m. to celebrate Hallidie Plaza’s transformation. Emcee Val Diamond, actress, will host a program that includes aerial dancers from Flyaway Productions, lion dancers and drummers from Leung’s White Crane, mariachis from Nueva Generacion– along with salsa instructors from Vima Dance Studio who will give complimentary lessons to the music of Los Compas. The entertainers will continue to perform on a regular basis at Hallidie Plaza throughout the year. Hallidie Plaza Performances is free and open to the public and 1,000 guests will receive complimentary commuter coffee mugs courtesy of Westfield San Francisco Centre and Metreon.
