Grateful Living's Festival Formal

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Know the feeling when you fall from your festival cloud into the cold real world? Miss those crazy outfits, costumes, and accessories that collect dust in your closet? Marking Grateful Living’s fifth annual philanthropic bike ride for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, join us at the Festival Formal for a night of dancing, drinking, and ultimate delight all while supporting a worthy cause.

Here in San Francisco, we are always dressing up but never “dressing-up”. So why not combine the two? Come to Slate on Friday, July 21st and combine whatever festival flare you’d like with your favorite cocktail attire. Want to take this on Fireflower style? Do it. Feeling more Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, or Stagecoach? That’s your prerogative.

Music brought to by our very own Fireflower, Grateful Living’s Festival Formal is complete with a 4 hour open bar, 45 dollar tax deduction, amazing raffle prizes, and more surprises to come.

Your event ticket, and the money we raise the night of, goes to support the amazing team of doctors and researchers at the Multiple Myeloma Research Center within Dana-Farber, dedicated to finding a cure for a cancer that has affected my life in a very profound way. So clear your schedule, don those tights, temporary tats and evening wear, and help us raise money for a worthwhile cause!

If you can't come, please consider making a donation to the bike ride! http://profile.pmc.org/Caitlin-Brisson

About The Pan Mass Challenge and Team Grateful Living:
Five years. Five years ago, my mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. Five years ago, she was given a 50% chance to live 5 years. Five years ago, we began riding in the Pan Mass Challenge.

Five years later, we still ride. Five years later, she is healthier and happier than I have ever seen her in my life. Five years later, she completed a two-week bike-trip in France, and I had the joy of hearing about the 7% grade she conquered for over an hour. Five years later, she often recounts her workouts to me as I sit on my couch in San Francisco, giggling to myself that I am listening to my mother, one of the most hard-working orthopedic surgeons I have ever met, describe to me how many reps and at what weight she has accomplished that day. Giggling because we are in uncharted health and wellness territory.

We began riding the summer after my mother received a stem cell transplant for multiple myeloma. The procedure has saved and prolonged my mother’s life significantly. My family is no stranger to multiple myeloma as my grandfather, a three-time survivor of prostate, melanoma and squamous cell cancer, received the same diagnosis four years prior. After a courageous battle, Grandpere lost his life to the disease in July 2013.

My mother is living proof of the power of both scientific discovery and treatment practices at Dana Farber. We ride for her, and in memory of many others such as Grandpere, Aunt Dawn, and countless other friends and their family members, who fought the hard fight. Too many of my friends and their friends and families have been adversely affected by cancer.

Our two-day and 163 mile bike from Wellesley to Provincetown raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Jimmy Fund. All of the money we raise (100% of it!) will go directly to the Multiple Myeloma Research Group at Dana-Farber. The money we raise affects the ability of doctors and researchers to find cures and treatments for cancer, and for more children and adults to survive cancer.

I hope you will please consider supporting our team as we take on the Pan Mass Challenge for a fifth year and join me in making a difference in the fight against cancer. To date, our team has raised a total of just under $300,000 towards this cause. Let’s keep climbing!
