SEE EVENT DETAILS
GLIDE is pleased to welcome back, in person, the annual GLIDE Legacy Gala and celebrate the GLIDE Legacy Awards on Friday, August 19 at Terra Gallery in San Francisco. The 2022 GLIDE Legacy Awards honor two remarkable individuals who embody GLIDE's values, including unconditional love, standing for the people and commitment to fighting systemic injustice.

Aimee Allison, founder of She the People, will receive the Rev. Cecil Williams Legacy Award, for her work in elevating the voice and power of women of color. Dr. Connie Wun, co-founder of AAPI Women Lead, will receive the Janice Mirikitani Legacy Award for her lifelong commitment to ending racial and gender-based violence.

The 2022 GLIDE Legacy Gala event will feature GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan presenting our Legacy Awards to Aimee Allison and Dr. Connie Wun; live entertainment from DJ King Most and the renowned GLIDE Ensemble and Change Band led by Vernon Bush; as well as food, refreshments and specialty cocktails. The Legacy Gala will bring GLIDE supporters back together for an evening to reconnect and recommit to building our beloved community. In anticipation of the gala, GLIDE invites the public to a thought provoking and inspiring FREE livestream panel conversation on August 11 with our esteemed awardees and GLIDE President and CEO, Karen Hanrahan. To register to attend the livestream, visit https://www.glide.org/legacygala.

Leading up to the evening of the gala, there will be a free, virtual panel discussion on August 11 moderated by Priya David Clemens, host of KQED's Newsroom, with GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan and the awardees focused on the resiliency and unique character of the San Francisco Bay Area and addressing rising inequities through community building and the empowerment and elevation of marginalized groups.  Drawing on their personal experience as community builders and powerful advocates for women and people of color, the awardees will have an engaging conversation on the mounting threats to human rights following the Supreme Court Roe v Wade decision, the importance of representation in social justice work, especially regarding race and gender, and how we can mobilize for change in this pivotal time.

Past Legacy Award honorees have included Michael Franti, Amanda Gorman, Vice President Kamala Harris, Van Jones, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Mpumi Nobiva, Lateefah Simon, Alicia Garza, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Jeremy Affeldt, Renel Brooks-Moon, Chip Conley, Vernon Davis, Dave Eggers, Chris Gardner, Chinaka Hodge, Felicia Horowitz, Shaka Senghor, Shiza Shahid, Andres Torres, and Kristi Yamaguchi.

The GLIDE Legacy Committee is raising money throughout 2022 through ticket sales, crowdfunding and lead-up events that will support GLIDE's critical work in San Francisco, which includes providing thousands of free meals a week, harm reduction outreach, behavioral health counseling, rental assistance, spiritual community, and more.

General Admission tickets start at $75 for early bird sales and include exclusive entry to the in-person event at Terra Gallery. Sponsorships begin at $500. Thank you to current Empower Sponsor Zendesk.
