Creatures of Impulse, the Bay Area's award-winning teen improv troupe based in Pleasanton, opens its 8th season at the Firehouse Arts Center with GHOST STORIES, promising new twists on their ever-popular Halloween-inspired fall classic.
The Troupe suggests we "gather around the (figuratively speaking) campfire" as audience suggestions inspire Creatures of Impulse to create custom-made ghost stories live on stage. "Come and see your very own 'dark and stormy night' come to life!" says COI coach and director Mark Duncanson. "Every show is different, and we get lots of fans who come to two or more performances in the Creatures' annual scare-fest."

How it works: The teen improvisers in COI rehearse storytelling techniques, and study how to create characters that the audience can identify with, and will hopefully care about as well. 'Ghost Stories' is considered a long-form, story based improv show. Audience members will be asked for suggestions before the show starts to help inspire the creation of characters and storylines. From this, the cast then develops a fully improvised "play" each night.
COI Founder and Director Mark Duncanson notes: "We hope to give audiences another perspective on improv with our long-form narrative performances like 'Ghost Stories.' Improv isn't just one-liners designed to go for laughs. We hope to create compelling stories and characters with audience suggestions, and then take them along for the journey."
