Get Empowered! Fun Family Friday. Join Emmy Award-winning actor/dancer Obba Babatundé and the Get Empowered! team for a fun-filled interactive night of dynamic unity arts from around the world. Participate in drumming, dancing, and Capoeira (Cap-WHERE-a), Brazil’s fast and graceful Afro-Brazilian art form that blends dance, martial arts, and acrobatics.
Kids will have the chance to play drums and other percussion instruments, as well as taking part in Capoeira, an activity that teaches giving and gaining respect, strengthening patience, and increasing physical stamina. Master Capoeira practitioner, dancer and teacher Sabiá Pinheiro will lead the Capoeira activity.
Kids 18 & under are FREE; Adults suggested donation $10. All proceeds go directly to providing free outreach programs in the East Bay provided by Get Empowered! and the TahDah Foundation (501c3 organization). March 17, doors open 6:30, event 7:00pm-8:00pm.
