Galeto Brazilian Steakhouse in Old Oakland, on Veterans Day 2016, Friday, November 11 from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m., will be offering U.S. military veterans and active duty personnel with valid identification a 10% discount on a full Churrasco dinner.
To qualify for the discount, military ID, DOD ID, DVA ID or DD214 ID will need to be presented. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, dessert, tax and gratuity are not included and the discount is not valid with any other offer, discount or prior purchase.
The prix fixe Galeto menu centers on tableside carved service with 12 to 14 different cuts of meat during dinner and a robust gourmet buffet salad bar and selection of signature side dishes. Dinner is priced at $49.95 with a salad bar only option for $39.95. Every meal begins with a plate of pão-de-queijo (cheese bread), crispy polenta and fried banana. A la carte dessert choices include a dulce de leche crêpe, papaya cream, crème brûlée, and petit gateau, to name a few. Not to be missed is the restaurant's Brazilian flan, a, creamy custard topped with caramel. The art of fire-roasting meats, called in Portuguese “churrasco,” was born in the 17th century during the colonial period of Brazil when cowboys, known as gauchos, originated this unique cooking technique.
The restaurant's full bar serves classic, contemporary and signature cocktails including Brazilian favorites such as the Caipirinha, Brazil’s national cocktail made with cachaça, sugar and lime. The wine list offers domestic and New World selections, plus there are seven craft beers from local brewers on tap. Weekday Happy Hour, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., affords guests the opportunity at the bar to partake of $4.00 draft beers, $5.00 house cocktails, $6.00 premium tap wines and $3.00 off on all bar appetizers.
Highlights of the 85-seat Galeto dining room, designed by Kibwe Daisy to evoke the spirit and style of Rio de Janeiro, include a maroon, charcoal grey, ocre and beige color scheme, a high ceiling with oversized windows, exposed brick walls, glass-shade suspending lighting, wall decorations consigned by local artists and a central c-shaped beverage and salad bar.
