Friday Nights @ OMCA Block Party & Summer Season Launch

The Summer Season of Friday Nights @ OMCA is back! That means the gardens are open for picnics, live music outside is back, gallery hours are open until 10 pm, and the Off the Grid food truck market expands onto Oak Street. Come celebrate the beginning of warmer weather with our first Friday Nights @ OMCA Block Party, taking place every first and third Fridays of the month now through July and on August 10. Get down to new themes each month featuring performances and activities in celebration of our special exhibition RESPECT: Hip-Hop Style & Wisdom, opening Saturday, March 24. Tonight, celebrate The Bay’s influence on Hip-Hop.

Late Night Gallery Hours
5–10 pm: Galleries Open Late
Admission is half-off for adults with an additional $4 charge for special exhibitions. Ages 18 and under are always free on Friday Nights @ OMCA.

5–10 pm: Member Preview Hours
Great Hall, Level 2
Want to get a sneak peek at RESPECT: Hip-Hop Style & Wisdom before it opens on Saturday, March 24? Become a Member at OMCA to enjoy special preview hours.

7:30–7:45 pm: Snack-Sized Docent Tour
Visit Ticketing Desk on 2nd level to discover meeting location
A fifteen-minute mini-tour led by a talented OMCA Docent with a surprise theme each time. Included with Museum admission.



Music, Dance, and Performances
5–6:30, 8:30-9 pm: Resident DJ
10th Street Amphitheater
The legendary DJ Davey D spinning Hip-Hop hits.

6–8 pm: Music
Oak Street Plaza
Live beat-making and MCs with Lo-Fiction.

6:30–7:15 pm: Dance Performances
10th Street Amphitheater
Join a dance showcase with intergenerational representatives of the Bay Area Hip-Hop street dance community, including demos of turfing by TURFinc and classic Oakland boog-a-loo with BRS.

7:15-8:30 pm: MCs
10th Street Amphitheater
Ryan Nicole and special guests celebrate The Bay’s influence on Hip-Hop with pioneers of the art form and present day innovators.




Family Activities
5–9 pm: Dominoes Tables
10th Street
Join open community games or learn how to play dominoes hosted by the Global Domino Program.
5–8 pm: Family-Friendly Drop-In Activity
California Room
Make your own seed bomb inspired by the exhibition Take Root: Oakland Grows Food.

5–8 pm: Community Mural
Garden
Join a community mural demonstration and workshop with Forrealism artist Joaquin Alejandro Newman and youth artists from the REACH Ashland Youth Center, a program of the County of Alameda.



Local Food and Drink
5–10 pm: Off the Grid Food Trucks
10th Street
Enjoy a rotating lineup of local gourmet food trucks from Off the Grid.

5–9:30 pm: Blue Oak Beer Garden
Blue Oak Beer Garden (near Koi Pond)
Enjoy beer and wine specials from local makers.

Kick back and relax with seating available on 10th Street (no alcoholic beverages allowed), the 10th Street Amphitheater, and Oak Street Plaza. To protect the Museum collections, food and drink are not allowed inside the galleries unless otherwise designated. The OMCA Gardens are open again for the Summer Season!
