Interested in joining the volunteer interpretive docent crew? The park is offering a free training about the Maritime Museum Building, its artists, art and architecture on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 9am-12:30pm. Contact Docent Coordinator Lou Salas Sian (
[email protected]) or Volunteer Manager Terry Dorman (
[email protected]) ASAP to schedule an interview.
Throughout the year, Docents are invited to attend additional free classes (on topics such as maritime history, 19th and 20th century historic ships, NPS 21st Century Interpretation, Audience Centered Interpretation, CPR/AED/First Aid, and situational awareness), and participate in maritime-history themed brown bag lunch talks delivered by park staff and outside researchers.
Park Docents work indoors and outdoors, at the Visitor Center, at the Maritime Museum, and aboard the fleet of National Historic Landmark vessels, and share their knowledge with our visitors through educational and interpretive programs. Shifts are flexible, and available daily during open hours. The Park asks docents to serve at least 10 hours per month, and make a one-year commitment.
