Free Shakespeare in the Park's 'Hamlet'

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Sequoia High School (see times)
August 12 - 27, 2017, Saturdays at 7:30 pm & Sundays at 4:00 pm

In 2017, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival celebrates 35 years as the Bay Area's acclaimed provider of free and accessible Shakespeare performances. For this historic year, SF Shakes will present "Hamlet" for the first time at Free Shakespeare in the Park. The play, about the questionable succession of King Claudius to the throne of Denmark over his nephew Prince Hamlet, speaks strongly about disenfranchisement, frustration, and the need for action during troubled times. Hamlet is torn between revenging his father's murder and going along quietly with the new regime, including his mother Queen Gertrude. Finding an ally in the audience, he shares his inner turmoil in a series of soliloquies which have become familiar all over the world - from "Oh, what a rogue and peasant slave am I" to "To be or not to be" to "How all occasions do inform against me."

Audiences can further their enjoyment of this production by attending a 15-minute Green Show, 30 minutes before the performance. "Hamleton" provides context and historical background for the play in a fun, family-friendly format.

No tickets or reservations are needed for these complimentary shows. Bring your family, friends, a blanket, and a picnic to enjoy professional theater at no charge!

"In just 5 seasons Free Shakespeare in the Park has become a highly anticipated summer event in Redwood City," says Toby Leavitt, Executive Director of San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. "We look forward to greeting both fans and newcomers to Free Shakespeare in the Park!"
