Free Saturdays: Tattoo Talk with Tex Buss at the de Young museum

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Free Saturdays are about celebrating art and this city that we love. Explore the permanent collections, take a guided tour, get inspired to create art of your own at our art making station.

Join local tattoo artist Tex Buss in the Piazzoni Murals Room for a talk on the history of avian images in tattooing. Tex will highlight how birds have captured a special place in the human imagination. This talk will be followed by a tour of our permanent galleries led by Tex.

Tex Buss has been tattooing in San Francisco for nearly a quarter of a century. She moved from Scotland in the 1990s and was a young tattooer during the heyday of the Bay Area tattoo explosion. A decade ago, she created Authentic Tattoo in San Francisco, which remains her home base. Her work is illustrative and figurative, leans toward the neotraditional, and often features elements from the natural world. In addition to her love of drawing on skin, Tex also paints, mostly large figurative narratives in oil, and shows in galleries. Building on her years of experience in the art world and tattoo industry, she writes and lectures on the many fascinating topics that arise when you combine humans and creativity.
