Chapel of the Chimes Hayward celebrates 'Day of the Dead' with a traditional blessing of the altar (Ollin Anahuac Traditional Aztec Dance Group); presentation of the altar (Julia Villarreal); folkloric dancers (Ballet Folklorico de James Logan High School; DJ performance by Alex O. de Leon; sugar skull decorating for children; and a complimentary lunch for the community. The ancient Hispanic grave-decorating tradition is conducted every fall to celebrate the deceased and encourage visits by their souls. At Chapel of the Chimes Hayward, more than 500 guests are expected to attend the festival to witness and participate in the time-honored rituals of 'Dia de Los Muertos.' The event is free and open to the public.
