You can make a cocktail by following a recipe, sure. But making one that’s truly your own takes guidance from mixology pros Simon Ford and Kevin Dowell, who are teaching the The 86 Co Cocktail Class. Ford is an international barman and creator of Fords Gin, and Dowell is a San Francisco native who has managed cocktail programs for some of the Bay area’s best bars—Foreign Cinema and Laszlo, Outerlands, Rich Table, and more—and created original recipes featured in cocktail books and local media publications. The two have the expertise to get you pouring bartender-caliber cocktails by the end of the evening. It’s happening at Alchemist Bar & Lounge, a SOMA hangout with a steampunk décor and speakeasy feel, where you’ll learn from the following lessons:
Introduction to Gin, Vodka, Rum and Tequila and how each spirit is made
Rundown of tools used to make cocktails
The importance of ice
How to properly stir a cocktail
How to properly shake a cocktail
4 guided cocktail lessonsÂ
Tickets are $35 for the class. For $70, you can attend the class and also take home a set of professional grade bartending tools, the same equipment used in high-end bars.
At the event, you must present a valid photo ID that matches the name on the ticket. No one under 21 will be admitted. Please drink responsibly.
