Forgetting Tree

SEE EVENT DETAILS
November 3rd and 4th at 8pm, November 5th at 3pm, and online starting November 12th at 6pm

FORGETTING TREE is a cultural memory project conducted by Jes DeVille, co-produced by Queer Cat Productions and Openhaus Athletics. Taking the shape of an immersive dance-theater experience, FORGETTING TREE invites audiences on an enchanted night walk through a curated sensory garden installation. Projections, installations, and an original soundscape will transform the landscape of the Z Space lobby in San Francisco on November 3rd-5th, with a virtual experience available online everywhere starting November 12th.

Visitors will journey through our garden's bioluminescence to unearth the story of the Tree of Forgetfulness, reversing an age-old ritual separating humanity from our memory of location and culture through exploitation of land, labor, and living systems. This experience explores universal themes of climate shift, liberation ecology, and traditional ecological knowledge through the lens of communities on the fringe.

"Inspired by Bayo Akomolafe's work, FORGETTING TREE is not about creating sanctuary; it is about the outlaw operation that occurs after the great escape."
-Jes DeVille, Creator, Conductor, and Co-Producer

FORGETTING TREE features collaborating artists Rawiyah Tariq, Kayla May Paz Suarez, Jhia Jackson, Jessica Maria Recinos, Janesta Edmonds, Edna Mira Raia, Eric "Brooks" Walker, Cellista, S. Dillon Gardner, and Jes DeVille.
