1ST ANNUAL WEST PORTAL BOOK FESTIVAL
Nothing brings a community together like good books, and there is no community quite so well-read or neighborly as West Portal in San Francisco. That is why we are pleased to announce West Portal's first annual Book Festival, hosted by one of the city's preeminent local bookstores, Bookshop West Portal. The festival will launch on Tuesday, September 10th with a special sold-out evening with Amor Towles, author of the best-selling A Gentleman in Moscow. The week-long festival will boast a series of community events, including a neighborhood book swap on Wednesday, September 11th, and Children's Day on Saturday, September 14th as well as author readings and signings with Emma Donoghue (The Room; Akin), Sean Carroll (Something Deeply Hidden: Quantum Worlds and the Emergence of Spacetime) co-hosted by Wonderfest, and C.V. Monterrubio (On Tiptoes / De Puntitas).
In the spirit of celebrating the West Portal community, we will be hosting some of the events with the help of the neighboring businesses. Amor Towles will be hosted at the nearby Empire/Cinearts Theater, and the neighborhood book swap will take place at The Rain Tree Cafe, at 118 West Portal. On Children's Day, held on Saturday, September 14th, Clifford the Big Red Dog will be on hand starting at 10:30 AM to meet and greet children. In the afternoon at 1PM, Sasha De Sola, Principal Dancer with the San Francisco Ballet, will read, demonstrate, and discuss what it is like to be a professional ballerina. Sasha will be reading On Tiptoes/De Puntitas, the beautiful picture book based on her life, written by C.V. Monterrubio. The store will also provide a variety of children's activities throughout the day, including a make your own Golden Book and other book-related craft activities. Please join us in commemorating the first of many West Portal Book Festivals, celebrating our community and a love of books like no other.
