In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Riley Center presents FINDING JENN'S VOICE - Movie Screening and Panel Discussion with the filmmaker, Tracy Schott, and Bev Upton of the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium.
FINDING JENN’S VOICE features the commentary of many intimate partner violence experts, including Drs. Jacquelyn Campbell, Diana Cheng, Rae Taylor and David Adams, and brings their research on domestic violence and homicide out of the academic journals to help increase understanding of the risks of homicide and violence. The film also features eleven survivors of attempted homicide by their intimate partners. Their voices help to paint a picture of the anatomy of abusive relationships that looks beyond the black eye to truly understand the victim experience. They help us to find Jenn’s voice, and to understand the dangers overlooked by so many. Their insights and experiences allow the film to give a voice to the voiceless, and leave the viewer with a message that is hard to forget.
FINDING JENN’S VOICE is the recipient of the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) 2015 Media Award for Best Documentary, winner of 2015 Best Documentary Feature at the Pittsburgh Independent Film Festival and received the Social Impact Award at the Albuquerque Film & Music Experience. FINDING JENN’S VOICE is the centerpiece of community engagement and educational campaign called Voices4Change.
