Find Out How To Successfully Grow Plants

At 7:00 PM, on Monday January 20, 2014 at the Live Oak Senior Center, 1777 Capitola Road, Santa Cruz, the Monterey Bay Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature an ask the experts panel which will answer your gardening questions, especially as how you can successfully grow rhododendrons and other types of plants in Santa Cruz County, and what types of rhododendrons we can grow. The panel will consist of the hybridizer and retired nurseryman Allan Korth from Soquel, the gardener and hybridizer Jerry Harris from Ben Lomond, the gardener and hybridizer Nancy Ledyard from Aptos, and the gardener and hybridizer Mike McCullough from San Jose. All of these panelists have been members of the Monterey Bay Chapter for quite a few years and are familiar with gardening conditions. If you have problems in growing plants, please come to the meeting.
Allan Korth, a former wholesale nurseryman, is the hybridizer of Tahitian Dawn, Double Eagle, Loma Prieta, Jubilation, Prairie Fire, Pretty Baby, Twice As Nice, Rose Satin, Double Gala, and other outstanding rhododendrons.
Jerry Harris hybridized what is perhaps the best forms of deciduous azaleas, and has been growing rhododendrons for many years.
Nancy Ledyard has created many good Maddenii Series hybrids and deciduous azalea hybrids, and is knowledgeable about rhododendron culture.
Mike McCullough, a long time grower of rhododendrons, has created hybrids for the American Rhododendron Society Seed Exchange, and is one of the leading authorities on Rhododendron occidentale.
