Join us for the screening of the film The Order of Things (L'ordine delle cose). Italian director Andrea Segre will be joined by Vetri Nathan for the introduction and the closing Q&A session. This is the filmmaker's last stop on his West Coast tour, following his two presentations at UCLA and at Stanford University. The film is in Italian with English subtitles. A director of documentary and fictional cinema, Andrea Segre holds a PhD in Sociology of Communication at the University of Bologna, where he taught until 2010 as an expert in ethnographic analysis of video production and social communication practices and theories, in particular in field of international solidarity. In 2009 he received a special mention at Bif & st for the documentary Come un uomo sulla terra. In 2010 he directed the film Il sangue verde, presented at the 21st edition of the African Film Festival, in Asia and Latin America in Milan. In 2012 Bif & st won the Franco Cristaldi Prize for best film with Io sono Li and the Vittorio De Seta Award for best documentary with Mare Chiuso.Vetri Nathan is Associate Professor and Head of the of Italian Studies program in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Nathan received an M.A. and PhD in Italian from Stanford University in 2009. His research interests include immigrant cultures and globalization in contemporary Italy, colonialism and postcoloniality, Italian cinema and Food Studies. He has published various articles on these topics and his book Marvelous Bodies: Italy's New Migrant Cinema was published by Purdue University Press in 2017.
