Gotta say, we do love a Michael Mann film about serious people being really, really good at something (bank robbing, being assassins, etc.), and FERRARI certainly fits the bill. This time around, the master filmmaker behind HEAT and COLLATERAL has delivered a symphony of pulse-pounding races with spectacular sound and dynamic visuals made for the big screen. Anchored by commanding performances from Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, and Patrick Dempsey, FERRARI is a thrilling film about competition, the pursuit of excellence, and the love of racing.
FERRARI is set during the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle and danger of 1950's Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) is in crisis. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura (Penélope Cruz), built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for their one son. Ferrari struggles with the acknowledgment of another. His drivers' lust to win pushes them out to the edge. He wagers all in a roll of the dice on one race, the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia.
