Fashion Design: Designing for Others With Jamie Lau (A Follow-up to Fashion Design)

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Take your designs to the next level in this two-hour workshop with fashion designer and Britex Fabrics guest blogger Jamie Lau. This course is intended for students who would like to design for others - whether it's custom client work, building a capsule collection, or just understanding the process in general. (Mock client briefs will be available for students who are unable to bring work in progress materials to class.) With help from the instructor and fellow classmates, students will work on building a strong concept, personal vision, and cohesive design. Class will end with student presentations and peer critiques. Students will also have access to additional materials as part of their class fee including croquis (fashion figure templates), colored pencils, card stock, magazines, and fabric swatches.
NOTE: Students are strongly encouraged to come prepared with research, magazine clippings, inspirational images, rough sketches, sketchbooks, illustration mediums, fabric swatches and trim, garment samples, etc. in order to further develop existing projects and get the most out of this class.

About the Instructor: Jamie Lau is a designer, sewing instructor, fashion writer, and native San Franciscan. A self-taught seamstress consistently inspired by her love of dresses, Jamie infuses a playful nostalgia into her work by transforming simple silhouettes into fashion forward frocks sewn from traditional Japanese prints, luxurious brocades, handwoven ikats, and her own textile designs. In addition to designing her clothing line Jamie Lau Designs, she guest blogs and teaches workshops for Britex Fabrics. Jamie is also the author of BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern and worked as a sewing instructor at New York's Textile Arts Center. After ten plus years of living in New York, Jamie relocated her design studio to San Francisco.
