Family Gold Rush Day

The original California Gold Rush (1848-1852) will be the focus of the Family Gold Rush Day at History Park in Kelley Park on Sunday, July 7.

From 11 AM to 4 PM families are welcome to participate in the activities in History Park. Panning for gold begins at noon. There will be hand car and trolley rides available and the Wells Fargo Stage Coach will be accessible in the Dashaway Stable.

Pioneer crafts for children will occur throughout the day, and there will be a Jumping Frog contest and pony express relay races, as well as old-fashioned hoop races.

Chinese Lion Dancers will perform on the Plaza at History Park at 2 PM, and Fiddle Road will perform throughout the afternoon.

Family movies will be shown in the Bank of Italy: Gold Rush, narrated by John Lithgow, and A Tale of Two Trunks, the story of the Pellier brothers will be shown in the Fruit Barn.

The Print Shop will be open to learn about printing before computers. The Printers Guild will demonstrate printed on an 1884 platen letterpress.

Other historic buildings that will be open include:
- the Pacific Hotel Gallery which features Shaped by Water: Past, Present and Future
- the Leonard & David McKay Gallery at the Pasetta House, featuring Bear in Mind: the Story of the Califonia Grizzly
- the Paulson House with the California Pioneers of Santa Clara Valley
- Chinese American Historical Museum with the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project
- Portuguese Historical Museum with the Portuguese Heritage Society of California
- Dashaway Stables
- Stevens Ranch Fruit Barn

Refreshments will be available for purchase from O'Brien's Ice Cream Parlor and Tony's Popcorn Cart.
