FACE: DJ HARVEY + VIRGIL ABLOH

SEE EVENT DETAILS
DJ Harvey was called The Keith Richards of dance music by Rolling Stone Magazine as they named him one of 25 DJ's that rule the earth. Best put by the man himself 'You can't understand the blues until you've had your heart broken and you can't understand my music till you've had group sex on ecstasy"Harvey is a living legend. DJ Harvey got his professional start in music as a teen drummer in punk bands such as 'Ersatz' and ‘Your Dinner’ John Peel was a fan and played their music on his groundbreaking UK radio 1 show. By the late-eighties, Harvey had bought a pair of decks and began DJing. He co-founded Tonka Sound System, a now legendary collective of DJs, musicians, sound, lighting techs and artists throwing warehouse parties, festivals and a weekly at the Zap in Brighton, England. Harvey's sound could be described as house, techno and classics, but he's known for throwing all sorts into his mix. He starred at his own UK nights such as ‘New Hard Left’ & ‘Moist’ with Heidi Lawden and was among the first resident's at London's Ministry Of Sound on both Friday's Techno night and Saturdays House night, further showcasing his range. Harvey was an early instigator of re-edits for his now flaccid Black Cock label. “I was aware of the whole edit thing that came out of the US and Paradise Garage era and there were tracks I would play two copies of or record them to the reel to mess around with as I was Djing and so re-editing for me was just an extension of that,” says Harvey. “When you have a residency you are playing records week after week breaking new stuff and it’s a way to keep things fresh and exciting and put your personality on the music.” He still edits tracks these days but saving them for his own DJ sets uniquely. Harvey has issued a number of pioneering leftfield mixes now considered to be classics, including DJ ‘Late Night Sessions’ on MOS [1998] ‘Sarcastic Study Masters’ and New Testament all of which fetch big dollars on eBay and Discogs, adding to Harvey’s cult-like status amongst connoisseurs. In 2005 Harvey released a rock and roll album - Map Of Africa and has since gone on to find success with his Wildest Dreams band project (released on Smalltown Supersound) for which he writes, and plays all instruments. He has also achieved success as Locussolus where he sings alongside featured singers, actress Sam Fox, Tara Selleck and DJ Heidi Lawden. DJ Harvey tours the world at his own pace leaving plenty of time off for his other hobbies, surfing, collecting hi-fi, vinyl and riding vintage motorcycles.
