So Soul San Francisco: Black Art Salon Series presents an
Exclusive first look at Rotimi Agbabiaka's MANIFESTO
Thursday, June 20 at 7pm
A call to arms, a spectacular reckoning, MANIFESTO is Rotimi Agbabiaka's latest solo play, in which you the audience (and a cast of historical (s)heroes) will help a young artist create a manifesto for a 21st century theatre of liberation.
Agbabiaka follows his hit show, Type/Caste, with this portrait of a young artist at a crossroads. As the entertainment industry extends a welcoming hand to this previously excluded queer, black actor, he must decide whether to pursue the trappings of mainstream success or remain an outsider artist on the road less traveled. As our protagonist ponders the role of theatre in a mad mad world, he is visited by such creative ancestors as James Baldwin, Nina Simone, and Fela Kuti, who guide him toward the visionary ambition of a manifesto.
MANIFESTO speaks, sings, and screams its way to an art form capable of taking on the unhinged forces of racist, fascist, capitalistic foolishness ... and winning. Come prepared to take a stand.

ABOUT
Black Artists Contemporary Cultural Experience commemorates, celebrates and cultivates the phenomenal Black Art scene in San Francisco as we take over Brava's Cabaret with the So Soul San Francisco: Black Art Salon Series. In the tradition of our forerunner - the legendary Sugar Shack Performance Gallery - BACCE unleashes Black Art in a series of storefront performances, food, fun and fashion on third Thursdays in 2019. We will hold space for new performances and conversations in the casual setting of art salon. With fabulous guest hosts and loads of fun and surprises, we are inviting the community to enjoy and share the tremendous artistic output of some of the Bay Area's established and upcoming artists.
