Rock Medicine will be holding a California State EMT Skills Sign-off, exclusively for our volunteers and partners.
This sign-off is not required to volunteer with Rock Medicine. NREMT Affiliation is not required to volunteer with Rock Medicine nor practice as an EMT in the state of California if you have your grey state card.
Please note that this is not a refresher course and we are not permitted to offer CEs for the skills sign-off, so you will need to separately aquire 24 CEs to recertify your EMT.
Details:
The sign off will take place during a 4.5 hour window. Please note that this is a test, not an instructional course, so please ensure you have reviewed the skills that you will be tested on, available here. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes as you will be performing skills and acting as a patient for your partner. We also recommend bringing something to read (or your phone) as there will be some down time between stations. Please do not wear a RockMed shirt.
Epinephrine and Naloxone Requires a course!
EMTs must have completed our Naloxone and Epinephrine course, completed a course elsewhere with documentation, or completed the EMT course after 2019. If you do not meet these requirements and still want to test with us, we won’t be able to sign-off that skill slot. If you have already taken the course, we can administer the test as part of the skills sign off. If you have any questions, please email us at
[email protected].
We will be offering the Naloxone and Epinephrine course sometime in March or April and will sign off those skills during that class if needed.
NREMT Affiliation (Optional):
Rock Medicine also allows NREMT affiliation for selected active volunteers. To be eligible for a RockMed EMT NREMT affiliation, an EMT must:
•Be an active volunteer in good standing with Rock Medicine
•Have an updated Shiftboard Account with current correct CPR and EMT card
•Have worked a minimum of 20 shows in the previous 24 months
•Have passed a skills test with and California accredited EMT Certification or Recertification program or Rock Medicine within the past 6 months. Skills tests by employers or other EMTs will usually not be accepted, but may be accepted on a case by case basis.
