E-Books and Self-Publishing Discussion Panel, Free at Campbell Library

Mainstream publishers have been slow to embrace the meteoric rise of eBooks and self-publishing. Two of this trend’s essential components are (1) the public’s increased access to new publishing tools and (2) the availability of independent consultants who have helped many authors write, publish and distribute books that parallel the high-quality and socially relevant works championed by traditional publishers. Additionally, as the market for self-published titles continues to grow, authors and readers are encouraged to foster stronger relationships with public libraries to capitalize on their collective knowledge to make self-publishing an even more formidable presence in the publishing world.
Panelists: Megan Wong is the Virtual Library Manager for the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) where she manages their online presence, resources, and digital library. Jerry Fan, founder of JukePop, Inc., (www.jukepopserials.com) is an engineer turned entrepreneur. JukePop is the result of his love for serial fiction and belief in crowd sourcing. He believes that serializing content solves two major problems in the industry: long lead time for self-publishing writers and risk mitigation for publishers. Evette Davis, the author of Woman King, the first installment of a thrilling supernatural trilogy. She’s also a San Francisco political consultant and she serves on the board of the Litquake Foundation, founders of San Francisco’s iconic literary festival. Holly Brady is past Director of Publishing Ventures at Stanford University and the past Director of Stanford Publishing Courses. She now works as a publishing strategist with writers who are interested in using new media tools to self-publish their work. While at Stanford, she served as executive editor for The Portable Stanford book series and the highly acclaimed Stanford: Portrait of a University. She also launched the Stanford Writers Workshop and the Stanford Web Publishing Workshop. She currently teaches classes in self-publishing through Stanford Continuing Studies.
