Documentary Film Night | 82 Names: Syria, Please Don't Forget Us

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The journey of Mansour Omari, a survivor of torture and imprisonment in Syria, is traced in the new documentary film, "82 Names: Syria, Please Don't Forget Us." When Mansour was released from prison in Syria, he smuggled out five scraps of cloth sewn inside the shirt he was wearing. The names of his cellmates were written on them with ink made from blood and rust. He hoped that by preserving their identities they would not be forgotten. As Mansour seeks to rebuild his life in exile, he visits sites in Germany that remember the victims of the Holocaust. The film explores his experience and reflects on ways to bring attention to the brutal regime he escaped—and counter extremist ideology in the future.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with Rafif Jouejati of the Free Syria Foundation and Nidal Bitari of People Demand Change (PDC) to discuss the film and current situation in Syria.
Information about the Museum's 82 Names exhibit can be found here.
This event is presented in partnership with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
