Discoveries After Dark

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Celebrate life after dark with Nature in the City as we welcome the first day of "Standard Time".

We will set up in Shakespeare Garden in Golden Gate Park with hot cider, cold beer, and bug lights to attract the nighttime residents. With our leader Tania Pollak we'll explore some of the invertebrate diversity in the park and learn about the ecology of our bugs and insects.

Come anytime between 4:30 - 6:30 pm.

From 4:30 until sunset at 5:10 we will be demonstrating how to use bug nets to collect and identify daytime insects.

Then after dark from 5:30 - 6:30 we will set up lights and observe the nighttime insects that make the park their home.

Nature in the City will provide warm and comforting beverages for both adults and kids, as well as some bites to eat. The location in Golden Gate Park provides a convenient, safe, and welcoming atmosphere for our nighttime discoveries.

Event Leader: Tania Pollak
Tania is an Environmental Planner/Ecologist at the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. She has a Masters in Conservation Biology from San Francisco State, where she studied the San Francisco Forktail Damselfly. She teaches an undergraduate Ecology class at SFState as well.
