US-Mexico relations, which include strong historical ties, was a hot topic during the US Presidential election. The two countries share a 2,000 mile border and $531 billion in two-way traded goods in 2015. Many policy issues impact both sides including trade and economic reform, migration, citizen security, drug control, the environment, entrepreneurship and innovation, and education exchange.
Mexico's Consul General in San Francisco, Gemi José González López, will explore these and other important aspects of the bi-lateral relationship over lunch. Under Mexican President Peña Nieto’s administration, Mr. López has acted as General Director of Government Relations, Chief of Staff of the Secretary of Communications and Transportation, and Deputy Attorney General for the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. He also led the Press Office at the Mexican Mission to the UN, wrote the book "El Sistema Politico Mexicano" (The Mexican Political System), and is a Professor of Environmental Law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City.
