You are invited to dinner and conversation with Jordan Lorence, Senior Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom regarding recent developments in First Amendment law. Mr. Lorence will be discussing his organization's very recent argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in NIFLA v. Becerra, which challenged California's attempt to compel crisis pregnancy centers to advertise abortions, as well as other recent First Amendment cases before the Court, including Masterpiece Cake Shop, Minnesota Voters Alliance v. Mansky (whether a State can ban political apparel at a polling station), Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (whether public-sector union fees are unconstitutional).
About the Speaker
Jordan Lorence is Senior Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom in Washington, D.C. He has litigated First Amendment cases since 1984. Currently, he primarily focuses on cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Lorence argued before the high court in the Southworth case involving mandatory student fees, and has worked on other First Amendment cases such as Trinity Lutheran, Hobby Lobby, Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, Reed v. Town of Gilbert, and two major cases this term, Masterpiece Cakeshop and NIFLA v. Becerra. Lorence earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. Jordan also appeared as a contestant on the game show Jeopardy!, but alas, came in third place.
