On Jan 6 people celebrate Three King's Day throughout Latin America, known here as Epiphany or 12th Night (the day the three kings arrived in Bethlehem). It's celebrated a sweet bread called "rosca de reyes," (King's ring) with a baby Jesus baked inside it. Whoever gets the baby in their piece has to throw a party!
Arturo Pena, local baker/panadero takes great pride in his family's craft and will make roscas de Reyes for the Jan 9 event at Peralta Hacienda, which will be served with Mexican Hot Chocolate. His family's story is featured in an outdoor display at the site, brimming with communities stories from Fruitvale's diverse cultures.
