Desco Hosts Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Wine Paired Dinner

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Desco (see times)
Desco in Old Oakland will, on Tuesday, February 11, host a Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo wine paired dinner with an $85.00 five-course prix fixe menu prepared by chefs Donato Scotti and Simone Ferrara. Giacomo Fenocchio's son, Claudio, will be present at the event. The winery is a renowned producer of Barolo in Monforte d'Alba, Piemonte, Italy. This menu is being offered on an open-seating basis from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. All prices exclude tax and gratuity.

Also available that evening will be Desco's hallmark seasonally fresh, ingredient-driven regional Italian cuisine, traditional Neapolitan pizze and the schiacciatte prepared in a wood-fired oven. The everyday wine list at Desco is comprised entirely of Italian varietals, with 50 selections, about 20 of which are poured by the glass. The full bar showcases classic cocktails, amaro and traditional Italian aperitivi and digestivi. There is an afternoon happy hour with Italian bar snacks.

The comfortable, old-world feel of the 50-seat dining room at Desco evokes a 1940s Italian caffé thanks, in part, to rustic wooden furnishings and a vintage brick wall. There is outdoor sidewalk seating for up to 16, weather permitting, plus a copper-topped counter with room for 10 more guests. The building housing Desco is an historic structure erected in 1876 and a portion of the restaurant's mosaic and tile flooring has been in place for the better part of a century.

Prior to Desco, Chef Scotti opened Donato Enoteca in Redwood City, California, in 2009. He grew up in the small town of Bergamo in Italy and studied at the Instituto Alberghiero di San Pellegrino culinary school. He then moved to the United States and held positions of increasing responsibility at such restaurants as the legendary Valentino in Los Angeles and Il Fornaio in Sacramento. In 2004, Scotti designed and opened La Strada in Palo Alto, then Donato Enoteca, and subsequently Desco in the summer of 2013.

Desco is located at 499 9th Street, on the corner of Washington Street in Oakland, California. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. An adjacent private lot and neighborhood streets provide accessible parking options. The telephone number is (510) 663-9000 and web address is https://www.descooakland.com.
