Deranged Dads, Maniacal Moms, & Unholy Offspring: Family as Monster

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at 2269 Market Street (see times)
Starting in the 1950's, cinematic monsters went from being an outside force that threatens the family, to being contained therein. Parents (The Shining, Serial Mom), siblings (Basket Case, Sisters), children (The Bad Seed, The Omen, It's Alive) and entire family systems (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Devil's Rejects) have been depicted as monsters and are amongst the most popular horror movie themes today. In this highly interactive three-hour event, we explore the shadow archetypes of the modern family through communal viewing of scenes from monster movies, engaging dialogue, personal writing, art-making, and dramatic play.

Future events in the series include Sapphic Vamps, Dangerous Dandies, & Transexual Transylvanians: Queer Identities as Monster on June 13; Sinister States, Vile Ventures, & Cut-Throat Consortiums: Politics & Corporations as Monster on July 11; and Perilous Love, Toxic Desire, & Twisted Attachment: Romance, Mating, & Attraction as Monster on August 8. In the spirit of the summer matinee series, each experiential workshop will be held on a Saturday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Tickets may be purchased separately for each event or attend all four workshops for a discounted rate of $150 at http://monstermoviesalon.eventbrite.com.

Now in it's fourth year, Monster Movie Salon celebrates the monsters of cinema by producing interactive events that go beyond passive film watching to inspire personal and community engagement. For more information please visit http://monstermoviesalon.com.
