Del Mar Theatre
If you enjoy midnight movies, The Historic Del Mar Theatre in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz, is the place to go. Not only do they have an excellent midnight movie program, you can also enjoy an amazing experience and feel like you've gone back in time.
The theatre opened in August 1936. It quickly became known as one of the best equipped theatres in California with state of the art projection and sound systems. General admission was 25 cents and balcony seats just 30 cents. The theatre has survived a lot since this time. The arrival of television in the 1950's meant that many people stayed home for their entertainment, and the big Santa Cruz flood in 1955 flooded the lobby and auditorium. Despite all of this, the theatre continued.
At The Del Mar Midnight Movie program, you can enjoy the best popcorn around, as well as other delicious and affordable snacks. You can even get a cup of hot tea for those cold and rainy Santa Cruz nights. The Midnight Movie program even gives away special prizes to their guests. This is truly a unique experience.
